Personal PhilosophyMusic is one of the few creative vehicles that requires students to actively perform at all times. Students must perform with good technique, but also channel the emotional intent of the composer. It is not enough to understand the music. To truly perform and give someone an emotionally fulfilling experience, the students must emotionally invest in the piece. There is no other academic subject that requires students to do that throughout the entire process, from learning the first notes, to being on stage performing for friends and family.

Music was the one thing I could control. It was the one world that offered me freedom. When I played music, my nightmares ended. My family problems disappeared. I didn't have to search for answers. The answers lay no further than the bell of my trumpet and my scrawled, pencilled scores. Music made me full, strong, popular, self-reliant and cool.
